MBSA 2.0 detection is based directly on Microsoft Update, so all inquiries
regarding MBSA 2.0 patch detection for this month's release should by sent
to the public microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs newsgroup. This
announcement is specific to MBSA 1.2.1 and the underlying MSSecure.XML file
that services the MBSA 1.2.1 tool.
MSSECURE.XML Data Version 2006.01.10.0 (for use by MBSA 1.2 and SMS SUS
Feature Pack) was last modified today, January 10, 2006, and is now
available for all supported languages (English, French, German and
Japanese). Today's release contains 2 new bulletins which are fully
supported
by MBSA 1.2 for detection with the one exception for Office 2003 Language
Interface Packs (LIPs) listed below:
New January Bulletins
1) MS06-002 (Fonts) - 908519. This patch affects all supported
Windows platforms and does not supersede any previous bulletin
2) MS06-003 (Outlook/Exchange TNEF) - 902412 (Master KB), 892842
(Outlook/Office), 894689 (Exchange). This patch affects all Outlook
2000/2002/2003, Office MUI 2000/2002/2003 and Office 2003 LIPs platforms
with an associated instance that affects Exchange 5.0, 5.5 and 2000
platforms (see the MS06-003 bulletin for details). Outlook and Office MUI
detection is provided by ODT (for local scans only). The Office 2003 LIPs
platform has no detection and no automated deployment through SMS. The
Office 2003 LIPs vulnerability can be resolved by installing Office 2003
Service Pack 2 (see KB 887617 for details). Exchange detection is provided
by MBSA 1.2. None of these patches supersede any previous bulletin(s).
