I am running Windows Live OneCare and Defender on a Vista platform. Each time
I turn on my laptop, it alerts me that Defender is off. I turn it on, but
when I turn on my computer later, again I am alerted that Defender is off.
How can I keep Defender on, or are OneCare and Defender in conflict?

Microsoft has now documented this behavior:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932902/en-us

This is not so much a conflict, as an overlap--OneCare has incorporated the
functionality directly, so it turns off the Windows Defender gui. The same
level of protection is there.
